Rescue Work

Harley’s House of Dreams

When Harley passed away in March of 2016 it was our dream to not only work to end puppy mills, but to also continue helping senior dogs. With our puppy mill awareness programs (awareness, education and advocacy) firmly in place, we then launched our 4th program, “Harley’s House of Dreams.”

Senior dogs in need have always tugged at our hearts and the “Harley’s House of Dreams” program enables Harley’s Dream to rescue and provide the necessary medical care for these precious little old dogs – and eventually find them forever homes. Most were scheduled to be euthanized until we rescued them. You can see follow their journeys by joining our Facebook group, Harley’s House of Dreams.

To make this program possible, we created a designated fund specifically for saving senior dogs. Your support is needed to assure every dog we rescue gets the best care possible. A donation can be made by clicking this link. Thank you for helping make a difference!

Donations can also be sent by mail to:
Harley’s Dream

As you might imagine, medical care is our largest expense. Old dogs that end up in shelters typically come from backyard breeders, puppy mills or very negligent, uncaring owners. It’s not uncommon for a dog to have heart problems, severe dental disease, or structural issues that cause constant pain. We work with an excellent medical team that will do everything necessary to make sure the dog is comfortable and as healthy as possible. The expenses to help one dog varies considerably but it typically ranges from $1,500 to $3,000. With your support we can continue making a difference, thank you!

“Saving one dog will not save the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”

Adopting from Harley’s Dream

Our adoption application can be accessed at this link.

Harley’s House of Dreams is located in Berthoud, Colorado, but out-of-state adoptions are possible. If you’re interested in adopting one of the senior dogs we rescue, please begin by sending us an email at adoptions@harleysdream.org. Requests for a specific dog are listed in the order in which they are received. Once we complete a thorough medical, emotional and behavioral assessment of the dog, we typically begin by contacting the first person on the list. Please complete our adoption application and you’ll be contacted by our Adoptions Coordinator. (Submitting an application is not a guarantee that you will be approved.) Next, a phone interview will be scheduled so we can discuss your history with dogs, lifestyle, etc. A home visit/check will be arranged by us or by a representative of Harley’s Dream. Adoption fees range from $100 to $250 depending on the age and health of the dog.

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: It’s important to us that the dogs we rescue find perfect forever homes and we realize that sometimes that perfect home might be out-of-state. If approved, the adopter will be responsible for picking up the dog from Harley’s Dream in Colorado. **We do not ship our dogs or place them with transport organizations to their forever homes.
