George’s Journey

Mar 1, 2019

He might not look too excited in this picture, but George had a very quiet night and he woke up happy and hungry! He gobbled up his breakfast and hasn’t quit wagging his tail since! He lived with pain for so long with a fractured jaw, severely rotten teeth and gums, fistulas and swelling – you couldn’t even touch his mouth … so, post-surgery is actually feeling really good for little George.

Today George was neutered and he underwent extensive dental surgery, and he is doing well tonight! George lost 24 teeth (leaving none) and he had multiple fistulas repaired (openings between his mouth and nasal cavity). Once we got home, he happily ate his dinner and then fell asleep in a pile of blankets.

Thank you to the wonderful staff at Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists, in particular, Drs. Sitzman, Redman and Lineberger and their tech Lisa, for taking such excellent care of George … we’re so grateful! And thank you to everyone who kept this little guy in your prayers today, we appreciate your love and support!

Our little “Harley’s House of Dreams” resident, George, is currently in surgery with Drs. Sitzman, Redman and Lineberger at Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists. Though they are in expert hands and receiving the best care, it’s always worrisome when senior dogs undergo anesthesia. Please keep George in your prayers today.

George and Agnes are now in Colorado with us at “Harley’s House of Dreams” and they are both so sweet!

Feb 22, 2019

After a long journey, George arrived at Harley’s House of Dreams (actually, our house) last night and he’s doing great. What an amazing little dog! He’s friendly and sweet and his fur feels like velvet! The photos below are of George exploring our yard.

We saved George from being euthanized by pulling him from a shelter in Los Angeles. He initially was fostered in California by our wonderful volunteers, America and her mom, Maria. They lovingly cared for George through a terrible illness. After 2 1/2 weeks the doctor decided he was healthy enough to travel to Colorado.

Tomorrow morning George will visit Drs. Sitzman and Lineberger at Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists and, if all goes well, he will undergo surgery on his mouth and also be neutered. He also has an eye and skin condition that will be addressed by Four Seasons’ internist, Dr. Hilling.

We rescued George and Agnes from being euthanized in a Los Angeles shelter just over two weeks ago and, though they were receiving loving care, they both had to overcome illness to be healthy enough to make the journey to Colorado. Well, that journey has begun!

This morning, Pilots n Paws volunteer pilot, Eric, met up with our wonderful foster-moms, America and Maria, at El Monte Aiport, just east of Los Angeles … and UP THEY WENT!

We’re especially grateful to Eric for generously donating his time, skills, and airplane! And by the way, Eric’s co-pilot is his wife Agnes – that’s who we named our little Agnes after! Digit is another important part of the team – she’s an adorable little white Chihuahua who always travels with Eric and Agnes (a rescue dog, of course) .. and most importantly, she goes along on freedom flights providing moral support for the dogs they transport for Pilots n Paws. Isn’t that awesome?!!

Once they arrive in Tucson, George and Agnes will be met by another of our wonderful volunteers, Peggy, who will drive the rest of the journey to Harley’s Dream in Colorado. Stay tuned for more updates!

UPDATE! George and Agnes are finally doing well enough to travel from Los Angeles to Colorado! On Sunday morning they will fly from LA to Tucson with Pilots N Paws pilot, Eric, and then they will travel the rest of the way home to Colorado with our transport volunteer, Peggy.

Once they arrive at “Harley’s House of Dreams”, both Georgie and Aggie will see the doctors at Four Seasons Veterinary Specialists so we can begin tending to their medical needs.

The thought that these sweet little seniors were scheduled to be euthanized in the shelter is absolutely heartbreaking. Thank YOU for helping us save them!

Feb 17, 2019

We’re so happy to report that George (and Agnes) are doing great and well on the road to recovery! We hope to transport them to “Harley’s House of Dreams” in Colorado in approximately one more week. Meanwhile, we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to Dr. Swimmer of Vet Villa Animal Hospital for going above and beyond to provide such excellent care for Georgie and Aggie!

George is showing consistent improvement and has really perked up! He is still in Los Angeles with his foster mom, America, and she is providing excellent care. It will be at least one more week before Georgie is ready to be transported to Colorado to Harley’s Dream where he will receive additional medical care, but meanwhile, all is well and we are so relieved.

A huge THANK YOU to America and her mom, Maria – our angels – for all the loving care they provide the dogs we rescue. They go far beyond the call of duty and we don’t know what we would do without their help. FOSTERING SAVES LIVES!!

Feb 13, 2019

George is now back home from the hospital in his foster-mom’s care and he is doing a bit better. He is on 2 medications and his breathing is no longer labored – we expect more improvement throughout the day. Thank you so, so much for keeping little Georgie in your prayers.. they are working! Once George is healthy enough to travel, we will bring him to Colorado and eventually we will find him the perfect forever home.

Feb 9, 2019

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to America, our Los Angeles-based volunteer (and temporary foster) for helping make it possible for us to save George from the shelter! The photo with America was taken before they left the shelter – George was scared and sad. The photo in the car seat was his freedom ride. And the photo in the grass was taken a couple hours later at America’s house. What a day!!

George was listed to be euthanized at the shelter, but it’s YOUR support and donations that made it possible for us to save this little guy’s life.

FREEDOM RIDE! George has left the shelter and is now safe with our wonderful volunteer, America. This precious 5-pound, 10-year-old Chihuahua was on the list to be euthanized when we discovered him. He does have some medical issues which we will tend to as soon as possible. But for now … it’s going to be nothing but kindness and love for little Georgie for the rest of his life.

George will be SAFE SOON!

This little 10-year-old Chihuahua is scheduled to be euthanized at a shelter in Los Angeles, but today our volunteer will pull him on behalf of Harley’s Dream … and soon he will be safe. We decided he looks like a “George”. We’ll update you later!

Meanwhile, please keep your fingers (and paws) crossed that everything goes as planned.
