A Heartbreaking Tribute to “Bear”

Doug with Billy

Our hearts are shattered today with the news of the passing of a dear friend, Doug Peebler, affectionately known as “Bear”. Doug was a Colorado-based Harley’s Hero for the past few years. He was especially kind, gentle, honest and humble, and everyone who knew him loved him. Doug loved animals very much … and they loved him. He volunteered at the Harley’s Dream office, he regularly protested a nearby pet store and he attended and helped at many events. Recently Doug helped Dan build the giant puppy mill cage for our parade float. He was always reminding us that he’s available if we needed his help with anything. He and his wife, Brooke, adopted one of our of Harley’s House of Dreams dogs, Billy (pictured here with Doug). We were so fortunate to have had Doug in our lives.

As we have time to collect our thoughts, we’ll plan a special way to honor Doug. But meanwhile, please hold Brooke and the rest of Doug’s family in your hearts. The coming days will be particularly difficult for them.

My thoughts are with Doug’s family and to all of you who knew this kind and caring man.
I wish I’d have had the opportunity and pleasure to have met Doug at one of Harleys Hero’s charity dog events.
Sadly, I never did, I live in the UK.
One day, I shall return to the US and will arrange to meet some of you, the dedicated, like Doug who voluntarily work so tirelessly to educate folk and save these dear little dogs.

When you shed your teardrops for Doug, just remember God only takes the good ones!

Harley and lots of other little pups will be there smothering Doug with their big hearts & lots of little wet nosed kisses.

    With our deepest sympathy

& Lucky & Bella (our 2 little dogs).
