Harley’s Hero Spotlight – Meet Vickie

Why did you become a Harley’s Hero?
I have always loved dogs and one day Harley showed up on my Facebook page. As I continued to follow him and learned more about puppy mills, I felt this was where I could make a difference.

Which city/state are you working in as a Harley’s Hero? Which Team are you a member of?
My group is Harley’s Heroes – St. Paul, Minnesota.

What difference do you feel you are making as a Harley’s Hero?
Through writing letters to government officials, sharing posts, Harley’s Dream Walkers, painting rocks for #LoveLikeHarley Rocks campaign and I participate in weekly protests. I am learning more all the time to be a better Harley’s Hero.

What would you like everyone to know about puppy mills, pet stores and animal welfare laws in your state?
This is an area where I need to improve. I have written letters to officials in various cities, and I know there are puppy mills in Minnesota (from Bailing Out Benji’s maps), but I am unsure as to how this should all tie together.

What motivates, inspires you in the fight against puppy mills?
My love of dogs, and it pains me to see them suffer. I know I can help by educating others about puppy mills.

Do you have future plans as a Harley’s Hero?
To continue to participate all I can to spread the word about puppy mills and how others can help too.

Tell us about your pets!
I have two girls a doxi-chi named Miley Jo and a little long-haired chi named Lonnie Jo, soon to be 11 and 10 respectively. I have been actively seeking a rescue to add to our pack.

Can you offer words of advice to someone who is considering becoming a Harley’s Hero?
Please do, this is a very welcoming group of people! I have met and made so many friends all in the name of saving dogs. Everyone can do something!

Do you have a favorite quote?
I do not have a favorite quote, but I am very fond of a song lyric:
‘Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
