Harley’s Hero Spotlight – Meet David

David with Teddy at Hops & Harley

Why did you become a Harley’s Hero?
As a dog owner from birth, I had no choice. His story, his look and his love hooked me. We’re all moved to action by what affects our hearts the most. I had to help in some way.

Which city/state are you working in as a Harley’s Hero?
I live in Sonoma County California, and my area includes the four surrounding counties primarily, Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino and Lake.

What difference do you feel you are making as a Harley’s Hero?
Because my events involve anywhere from 50-250 people, if I’m allowed by my clients (most do) I hang my Harley’s Dream banner and place literature out. I also engage people verbally.

What motivates, inspires you in the fight against puppy mills?
My motivation like a lot of us is Harley and his parents. I want his time in the puppy mill to matter for more than the pain he endured. My motivation is stories of dogs brought to freedom.

Do you have future plans as a Harley’s Hero? If so, please tell us about them.
I plan to continue to educate people however it is possible. Talk, leave cards everywhere I go, financially support the goal of rescuing dogs.

What would you like everyone to know about puppy mills, pet stores and animal welfare laws in your state?
That California is hopefully leading the way in Animal Rights Legislation.

Tell us about your pets!
Abby D. Liscious is a Minpoochi. Half Mini Poodle, half Chihuahua. She was found on the streets of Napa and taken to the local shelter. Because she was sad and shy, she wouldn’t engage people so she wasn’t adopted by anyone. The shelter, in an effort to place her, let a local adoption group, Whiskers, Tails and Ferels, take her without a fee. We found her and fell in love immediately. She is the sweetest soul and really rescued us after we tragically lost our sweet Ellie. We’ve had her for six years and we believe she’s around ten years old.

Can you offer words of advice to someone who is considering becoming a Harley’s Hero?
Yes, DO IT!! Find your own effective way of spreading the word. We all have different opportunities we can utilize.

Do you have a favorite quote?
Yes, one I have had since my early teens. I believe Harley and his parents embody this quote. “Higher station in life is earned by the gallantry with which appalling experiences are survived with grace.” -Tennessee Williams.

“We can all deal with the good times, how are you when things aren’t so good? This is the test! Thanks so much for this honor. I’m proud to be a Harley’s Hero and call him my friend.” -David Dubnow0000
