Everybody Can Do Something

Everybody can do something to help bring an end to puppy mills! We received the following message and wanted to share:

“I’ve found this happens quite often lately, especially when I wear a Harley shirt, but today I actually drew a crowd! I was in the grocery store shopping, and saw a couple that had a cute Pomeranian in the woman’s purse in the cart. People were stopping and oohing and awing about how cute the dog was. I went up to them and politely asked questions about the dog, including where they got it. The woman told me from an online breeder… they paid $3,000 for the dog! Well, you know where it went from there. I had no idea how they would respond to the knowledge I was giving them, but they were actually very open and wanted to know more. I got very emotional talking about Harley as I spoke and pointed to my shirt. Next thing I knew, more people were standing around me listening and started asking questions. I began writing down Harley’s website address and passing it out to everyone. I ended up talking for about 45 minutes and drew a crowd of about a dozen people! I think the people in the grocery store were wondering what the heck was going on, but a few of them came over and were asking questions too.

“When I got home and told my (homebound) son what happened, he was so excited! Since he rarely is able to leave the house, he is always after me to wear my Harley shirts and never miss any opportunity to ‘educate’ someone. It’s not easy for me, but honestly, it’s getting easier. I do it for my son, and I do it for Harley and for all the mill dogs.” -Darla

  1. What a wonderful story!!! Thanks for sharing, Harley would be so proud of you!!!

  2. Saw this on facebook this afternoon. It was wonderful how Darla was able to pass on about Harley and Puppy Mills. Thanks again.

  3. Judy, I would be honoured if you would allow me to design some business cards and get them printed so that everyone can carry them so they may hand out to those interested in Harley’s legacy.

  4. What a wonderful story. Darla, so happy you spoke up and educated people. You’re my hero!

  5. Love hearing about how Harley is still educating people about the horrors of puppy mills. I have to get me a Harley shirt. Good job

  6. I am coming to Hawaii in September for a holiday from Australia. I am 74 years old and will be wearing my Harley and Teddy tee-shirt with them in their Supermen outfits. If I can get only one person to stop me and ask about it that would be wonderful.

  7. It is conversations just like this which will help turn the tide against the commercial breeding of dogs either by large companies or in mills. As much as we’d like to think people know about this issue, they just do not unless we find opportunities to educate them, just like Darla did. Once people know, we begin the process of helping them rethink their own behavior. Sometimes we think that we as individuals can do little to bring about social change. This wonderful story illustrates perfectly that we really can make a difference.
